I’m pleased to share that Aworan: African Lenses is now listed on BlackHistoryMonth.org.uk, in its Leicester events listings for Black History Month 2026. The listing brings the exhibition to readers looking for places to experience African art and culture this October.

African ways of seeing, in Leicester
Aworan means “image” in Yoruba. For me, that word is a starting point for looking closely: at a face, at someone’s surroundings, and at the stories a photograph can hold. The collection explores identity, cultural heritage, resilience and human beauty through photography and digital art.
The listing introduces these themes alongside practical information for visitors. It describes a solo exhibition of approximately 25 framed works, spanning portraiture, composed art and documentary photography. It also connects the Leicester show to my 2025 Aworan solo exhibition at Atirira Gallery in Lagos.
Why this inclusion matters
Seeing Aworan among the Black History Month listings gives more people a route into the work. An exhibition begins with the images on the wall, but it grows through the people who encounter them and the conversations they bring into the room.
Showing the collection in Leicester is an opportunity to share African perspectives with people from different backgrounds. I hope visitors leave with a new question, a remembered image, or a different way of looking at something familiar. Thank you to BlackHistoryMonth.org.uk for including the exhibition.
There is still time to visit
The exhibition continues until Saturday 10 October 2026 at Lightbox Gallery, LCB Depot, 31 Rutland Street, Leicester LE1 1RE. Entry is free and no booking is required. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 11am–5pm, with the gallery also open on Saturday 10 October.
If you have been meaning to come, these are the final days to see the framed works together. You can find the details in my visitor guide.
