Aworan: African Lenses is open at LCB Depot in Leicester until 10 October 2026, and it is free. If you are thinking of coming, this is everything I would want to know before walking in: where it is, when to go, what you will see, and how the prints work.

On now. Aworan: African Lenses runs until 10 October 2026 at Lightbox Gallery, LCB Depot, 31 Rutland Street, Leicester LE1 1RE. Free entry, Monday to Friday 11am - 5pm, and also open Saturday 10 October. Details and RSVP.

What the first visitors did

The first day brought 170 visitors and the launch night brought 174. The photographs from both show how the room works, and it might help you plan your own visit:

  • Visitors lean in to read the wall labels. Every piece has one, and the notes explain the idea behind the image.
  • People come in groups and on their own. Both work. The room is large enough that nobody feels crowded.
  • Families come with children.
  • Plenty of people photograph the work on their phones.

What you will see

Aworan is my signature collection: twelve years of composed and real-life art, made across the places I have lived and travelled. The work moves between portraiture, composed art and travel photography, in colour and in black and white. It extends the conversation I began with my solo show at Atirira Gallery in Lagos, and I wanted a UK audience to meet it at the start of UK Black History Month.

If you would like a preview, the full collection is online, and each piece has its own story.

How buying a print works

Every artwork in the show is available as a signed, numbered print. Here is exactly how it works:

  1. Find the piece you love and look for the QR code on its wall label.
  2. Scan it. It takes you straight to that artwork's page, not to a general shop.
  3. Tap “Buy this print” and pay securely by card.

Each print is £800 and comes with free tracked UK delivery. Each artwork is an edition of five (four for In Thought), so once an edition is gone it is gone. If you are not at the gallery, you can do all of this from the collect page.

Before you go

  • Check the hours above. The gallery closes at 5pm on weekdays.
  • Plan to stay for around half an hour. Longer if you like to read.
  • If you want to talk about a piece or about commissioning prints, get in touch.
  • If you cannot come in person, the online photographs from the launch give you a feel for the room.

And if you want the story of the opening, there are two posts: the first day and the launch night, with the film.
